The Science

What NAD+ does, why the level falls, and how to tell a real mechanism from a marketing one.

NAD+ is not a supplement ingredient that happens to be trendy. It is a coenzyme that every cell in your body uses continuously, in two distinct roles: as the electron carrier that makes ATP production possible, and as a consumable substrate that a family of repair and signalling enzymes burns through and cannot function without.

That second role is the one that matters for aging, and it is the one most marketing copy skips. These pages cover the underlying biology at the level you need to evaluate a product claim yourself.

Why NAD+ declines with age

Falling NAD+ is not mainly a production problem. It is a consumption problem — and knowing which changes what you should take.

Where to start. If you read one page in this section, make it CD38 — it reframes NAD+ decline as a drainage problem rather than a supply one, which changes what you should expect a supplement to do for you.
